Abhinav Bindra

Born on 28th September 1982, Abhinav Bindra is one of the astounding shooting stars of India who have given prolific performances at several international as well as domestic competitions in 10m Air Rifle category. He is India's first shooter has credited gold medal at the Olympic Games.

A brief account of his major encompassments is given here:-

• 2000- Bindra was honoured with the “Arjuna Award” by the Government of India for his notable performance at the “Olympic Games” with a score of 590 being only 17 at that time.
• 2002- Abhinav earned a gold medal at the "Commonwealth Games", held at Manchester in 10m Air Rifle pairs event. Besides this, he also bagged a silver medal in 10m Air Rifle singles event. The same year, he is honoured with India's highest sporting award- Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna.
• 2006- Bindra won the “World Championship” and became the first Indian shooter to receive a gold medal in the competition. He also added feathers in his cap by winning gold medals in the Commonwealth Games and ISSF World Shooting Championship.
• 2008- Won a gold medal at the Olympic Games, held in Beijing
• 2009- Bindra received the third-highest civilian award of India "Padma Bhushan" by the Government of India for his distinguished services in the sport.
• 2010- He bagged a silver medal at the Asian Games in 10m Air rifle team event. He also earned gold and silver medals at the Commonwealth Games through his best performance in 10m air rifle event.
• 2014- At the Commonwealth Games which were held in Glasgow, he again proved his perfection with the rifle by winning a gold medal.
• 2016- Bindra spotted the 4th position at the Summer Olympics, held in Rio de Janeiro and announced his retirement from the sport.
• 2018- Abhinav was honoured with the ISSF's highest honour- Blue Cross.
