Born on 13th February 1985, Somdev Kishore Devvarman is a former Indian professional tennis player. He is the only collegiate player who has qualified three consecutive finals at the NCAA.
Here are some of his career achievements:
- Won the F2 Championship in 2004, held in Kolkata
- Won at the 2007 NCAA Singles Championship, held in Athens
- Registered a 44–1 win-loss record at the 2008 NCAA Men's Tennis Championship which is unprecedented
- Bagged a gold medal at Commonwealth Games of 2010 and Asian Games in Doubles as well as Singles, held in Delhi and Guangzhou respectively
- Also secured a bronze medal in a team event at the 2010 Asian Games in the team, held in Guangzhou
- Honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2011
- Dominated the Delhi Open singles at the 2014 ONGC–GAIL, held in India
- Defended his Delhi Open singles title against Yuki Bhambri in 2015
- The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports appointed Devvarman as the national observer for Tennis in 2017.
- In 2018, he was honoured with the civilian award Padma Shri.
