Palwinder Singh Cheema

Born on 11th November 1982 in Patiala, Punjab, Palwinder Singh Cheema is a retired amateur freestyle wrestler of India who predominantly competed in the men’s super-heavyweight division. He is one of the top wrestlers of India in his decade and represented the nation at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He also holds the title of Rustam-e-Hind, which he annexed in 1999 at the mere age of 17. He is employed with the Punjab Police.

Some of his career achievements:

• Bagged the gold medal in 120kg freestyle category at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
• Won bronze medals at the Asian Games of 2002 and 2006 in the men’s freestyle 120kg category.
• Claimed silver medals in 2003 and 2004 and bronze medals in 2005 and 2007 Asian Wrestling Championships in the 120kg division.
• Bestowed with the Arjuna award in 2003.
