Born on 26th August 1987 in Sankhuwasabha, Nepal, Jitu Rai is a much-publicized Indian shooter specialized in 10m and 50m pistol category. Jitu has earned numerous achievements in his career.
Jitu bagged a silver medal in the 50m pistol event at the 2014 World Championships.
Bagged gold medals in Commonwealth Games and World Cup of 2014 in 50m pistol shooting and 10m air pistol event respectively.
He is the first Indian to gain a gold medal in Asian Games’ 50 m pistol event, held in Incheon in 2014. The same year, he was ranked as the world No.1 shooter of 10m Air pistol category.
He is the only professional shooter to win a gold medal at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games of 2014.
Earned a bronze medal in the 10 m air pistol event at the 2015 ISSF World Cup.
He received the honour of "Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award" in 2016 for his astounding performances in the shooting.
He is also the first Indian shooter who has gained 2 medals in a single World Cup event.
In 2017, Jitu played a significant role to bag a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup 10 m air pistol mixed team event. The same year, he earned two bronze medals at the Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships.
At the Commonwealth Games of 2018, Jitu gave an eye-catching performance in the 10 m air pistol event and bagged a gold medal. Besides this, he also earned a bronze in the 10 m air pistol event of the ISSF World Cup of the year.
