Hima Das

Hima Das (Dhing Express) is an Indian sprinter born on 9th January 2000, who has scripted history with her super-sonic performance at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships. She is the first Indian woman to clinch gold at the event. Hima is the daughter of Ronjit Das, a farmer by profession in Assam & she is the youngest of 5 siblings. This young Assam girl started her journey from a small town, Dhing, and now she has proved that your perseverance leads you towards glory. Initially, Das used to play football, but her school teacher suggested switching to an individual sport which led her to go for the sprint. Her dream is to make the nation proud, which she is undoubtedly living. Recently, in 2021 she was appointed as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Assam Police.

Achievements-

• Won a bronze and silver medal at the school Nationals in 100m and 200m, respectively, ultimately leading her to compete at the Youth (U-18) Nationals of 2017 in Hyderabad.
• Hima qualified for the 2017 Asian Youth Championships through her performance at the Youth U-18 Nationals and finished seventh with an improved timing of 24.52s.
• Finished fifth at the 2017 World Youth Championships, held in Nairobi with the timing of 24.31s.
• Bagged India's first gold medal in 400m at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championship of 2018, clocking 51.46s.
• Hima Das has competed at the Commonwealth Games of 2018 in 400 m and 4x400 m relay. In the finals of 400 m, she finished sixth with a timing of 51.32 seconds whereas, in the 4x400 relay, the team finished seventh with a timing of 3 minutes and 33.61 seconds.
• Bagged a gold medal at the Asian Games test event held in Jakarta in 2018, improving her personal best timing to 23.59s.
• Bagged gold medals at the Asian Games of 2018 in women's 4×400 m and mixed 4×400 m events, and earned the second spot in the 400 m event. In September, the same year, Hima signed an endorsement deal with Adidas, and the Government of India also bestowed her with the Arjuna award.
• Hima Das was appointed as the first-ever UNICEF Youth  Ambassador for India on 14th November 2018.
• Won the 200m sprint event at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix 2019 with the timing of 23.65s on 2nd July and replicated the victory at the Kutno Athletics Meet in the same event23.97s on 7th July.
• Hima Das bagged her third medal of the season at the women's 200m event with her perfect timing of 23.43s at the Kladno Athletics Meet 2019 on 13th July 2019. The same month, she succeeded in chasing another gold medal at the Tabor Athletics Meet on 17th July 2019, where she clocked 23.25s.
• On 20th July 2019, Hima added her fifth Gold medal of the month with her super-sonic performance in the 400m race in Nove Mesto, where she recorded the timing of 52.09s.
• She also appeared in India's famous TV reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati hosted by Actor Amitabh Bachchan in 2019.
• She had a record-breaking win with Gold in the 200m Women's final with the timing of 23.21s at the Federation Cup National Athletics Championship, 2021.
• Hima Das won gold in the women's 200m in the Indian Grand Prix II at the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports Campus in Feb 2021.
• Her personal bests in 100m is 11.63s, in 200m is 22.88s both in 2021 & in 400m it was 50.79s (National Record in 2018).
