Geet Siriram Sethi, Born on 17th April 1961 in Delhi, is a professional English Billiardsplayer who has dominated various international billiards events, holding two world records. Along with former badminton player Prakash Padukone, Geet has founded the OlympicGold Quest that works to encourage sports in the nation. In addition to the Billard competition, Sethi runs a private travel agency in Ahmedabad & Mumbai called Raag Travels. Geet has also authored an autobiographical motivational book called 'Success vs Joy' in 2005.
Achievements & Titles-
He won the International Pontins Snooker Champion in 1984.
His first international appearance was winning theIBSF World Amateur Billards Championships in 1985.
In the 1985-1988 span, Sethi won the Indian National Snooker Championships four times back to back as his National English Billards streak.
Geet won the ACBS Asian Billards Championship in 1987.
Bagged a gold medal in the Team event and a silver medal in the singles event of billiards at the Asian Games of 1988.
In 1989, Geet was a World Amateur Snooker semi-finalist Asian Snooker Championship No-3.
In 2001, he also won the World Amateur Billiards title.
Secured second position at the Team event and third position at the singles event of billiards at the Asian Games of 2002.
In 2006, he won the World Team Snooker Masters Champion in San Jose.
In the 15th Asian Games2006 held in Doha, Qatar, he won bronze in the English billiards ( men’s doubles category).
In 2007, Geet bagged a silver medal in the Indoor Asian Games English Billiards, Macau.
Geet Sethi bagged silver in the WBA World Billards in 2008.
Awards:
Geet was honoured with the Padma Shri award in 1986.
Sethi got honoured with the highest sporting honour of India, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 1992, now known as the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.
In the same year, 1992, Geet was also awarded the KK Birla Sports Foundation Award.
Geet was conferred with the Billards Player of the year by WPBSA in 1999.
Records:
Geet Sethi is the first amateur to have recorded a 147 maximum in competition by getting into the Guinness Book of Records.
He also created a world record of a 1000+ point break in the 1992 World Professional Billiards Championship. And that break is the highest world championship break over the last 50 years.
