Sharath Kamal

Achanta Sharath Kamal is a professional table tennis player from Tamil Nadu, born on 12^th July in the year 1982. He is the first Indian table tennis player to become Senior National Champion nine times, hence breaking the record of eight-time National Champion Kamlesh Mehta. His current world rank is 31 as of June 2020.

A glimpse of some of his achievements:-

• In 2004, at the 16th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship, Kamal won the men’s singles gold at Kaula Lumpur. The same year, he was honoured with the prestigious "Arjuna Award" by the Government of India.
• He won a gold medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
• At Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2010, he won the US Open Table Tennis men's championships.
• He defeated Hong Kong's Li Ching at the 2010 Egypt Open; Thus became the first Indian to win a singles title on the ITTF Pro Tour.
• At the Commonwealth Games of 2018, Kamal bagged a gold, silver and bronze medal in men's team, men's doubles and men's singles event.
• Bagged bronze medal in both men's team and mixed doubles at 2018 Asian Games, held in Jakarta.
• Honoured with the fourth highest civilian award, Padam Shri in 2019.
