Sandeep Singh

Sandeep Singh, born on February 27, 1986, in Shahabad, Haryana, India, is a former field hockey player and one of the sport's prominent drag-flick specialists. Overcoming adversity after a near-fatal gunshot accident in 2006, Singh remarkably returned to the field. Representing India, he became the top goal scorer in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2009 and 2010. His skill in penalty corner conversions earned him the nickname "Flicker Singh." Sandeep's journey, depicted in the Bollywood film "Soorma," showcases his resilience. Post-retirement, he continues to inspire as a coach and sports administrator, leaving an indelible mark on Indian hockey.

• Earned a bronze medal along with the Indian team at the 2007 Men’s Hockey Champions Challenge, held in Belgium
• Captained the Indian team that won the 2009 Sultan Azlan Shah Cup that took place in Ipoh and had been entitled as “Man of the Tournament"
• Silver medal at the Commonwealth Games of 2010, held in New Delhi
• Helped India win the 2012 Summer Olympics qualifiers against the host Malaysia, and went on to become the highest scorer of that Olympic tournament
• Received the “Arjuna Award” by the Government of India for his contribution to the sports in 2010
