At the Olympicsof the year 2004 that held in Athens, Gennady won a silver medal in the middleweight category. The same year, he won a gold medal in middleweight category at the Asian Amateur Boxing Championships, convened in Puerto Princesa.
In the year 2003, he dominated the World Amateur Boxing Championship in the middleweight category.
At the Asian Games of 2002 that took place in Busan, Gennady clinched a gold medal in the light middleweight category.
