Deepa Malik

Born on 30th September 1970, Deepa Malik is an Indian Paralympian who participates in Shot Put events. She is the first woman who has earned a medal at the Paralympic Games (the feat she earned by giving an astounding performance in Shot Put F-53 event of 2016 Summer Olympics winning a silver medal). She is currently the world no. 1 in the F-53 category. Deepa is also the first disabled individual to receive an official rally license from the Federation Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI) and also associated with Himalayan Motorsports Association.

Her Achievements:-

• Bagged a bronze medal in shot put event at the 2009 IWAS World Games.
• Received the "Guru Gobind Shaurya Puraskar" in 2009.
• Claimed three gold medals, each in Shot-put, Discus and Javelin throw events at the 2010 CP Sports Nottingham England.
• She won a bronze medal at the 2010 Para-Asian Games; it was the first-ever medal won by a female athlete at the Para-Asian Games.
• Deepa has won various accolades in the adventure sports also. In 2009, she has participated in the Raid-de-Himalaya and drove around 1,700-km in sub-zero temperatures which included a climb to 18,000 feet.
• She has also participated in the 2010 Desert Storm car rally, the toughest car rally of the country.
• Clinched two bronze medals at the 2011 IWAS World Games.
• Earned a silver medal at the IPC Athletics World Championships of 2011, held in Christchurch.
• Received the prestigious "Arjuna Award" by the Government of India in the year 2012.
• Won two gold medals for Javelin and Discus at the first Malaysian Open Athletics Championship, held in the year 2012.
• Bagged a silver medal in Javelin F-53/54 women's category at the 2014 Asian Para Games.
• Honoured with the "President Role Model Award" in 2014.
• Won a gold and a silver medal for Javelin and Shot Put at the IPC Oceania Asian Championship of 2016, held in Dubai.
• Claimed a gold medal in the Javelin F-53/54 women category at the 2018 Para-Athletic Grand Prix.
• Clinched three bronze medals, 2 in Javelin F-53/54 and 1 in F51/52/53 Discus throw category at the 2018 Asian Para Games.
