Catherine Astrid Salome Freeman

Catherine Astrid Salome "Cathy" Freeman is a former sprinter from Australia. Her speciality was in the 400 meters category. Cathy’s best record of 48.63 is presently ranked as the eighth fastest women of all time. After claiming the gold medal in commonwealth and silver medal in Olympics, and many other medals in her name, she announced retirement in 2003. Later, in 2007, she established the Cathy Freeman Foundation.

• Entitled as the Young Australian of the Year in 1990
• Won a gold medal at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, held in Auckland
• Earned two gold medals and one silver medal at the 1994 Commonwealth Games, held in Victoria
• Clinched a bronze medal at the 1995 World Championships, held in Gothenburg
• Bagged a silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics, held in Atlanta
• Secured a gold medal at the 1997 World Championships, held in Athens.
• Captured a gold medal at the 1999 World Championship at Seville.
• Bagged a gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games, held in Sydney.
• Won the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year award in 2001.
