Ashwini Ponnappa

Born on 18th September 1989, Ashwini Ponnappa is a professional Indian badminton player who represents India at international tennis events in women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Being one of the finest badminton players of doubles discipline; Ashwini has won many medals for India with her prolific performances.

Her major achievements:-

• Partnering with Jwala Gutta, Ashwini won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games of 2010 in women’s doubles category and became the first Indian pair to do so. Also won a silver medal in the mixed team event at the same event.
• Bagged two gold medals and a silver in the mixed doubles, women's team and women's doubles at the 2010 South Asian Games.
• In 2011, they became India's first and world's second doubles pair to win a bronze medal at the World Championships.
• Received the Arjuna Award in 2012 by the Government of India.
• She earned a silver medal with Jwala Gutta in women’s doubles at the Commonwealth Games of 2014, convened in Glasgow.
• Bagged the bronze medals in the women's team category at the 2014 and 2016 Uber Cup.
• Secured the bronze medals in the women's team category at the 2014 Asian Games and in the women's doubles category at the 2014 Asian Championships.
• Won gold medals in the women's team and women's doubles events and a silver medal in the mixed doubles event at the South Asian Games of 2016.
• Bagged a gold and a bronze medal at the Commonwealth games of 2018 in the mixed team and women's doubles event, respectively.
