Vikas Gowda

Born on 5^th July 1983, Vikas Gowda is a popular shot putter and discus thrower from India. His father was the coach of Indian Olympic track team in 1988.

His achievements:-

• Bagged a silver medal in the discus throw at the 2005 Asian Athletics Championships.
• Claimed a bronze medal at the 2010 Asian Games, held in Guangzhou, China.
• Won a silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games with a throw of 63.69m in the discus throw.
• In 2011, he bagged a silver medal in the discus throw at the Asian Athletics Championships.
• In 2012, he made a national record in the discus throw with 66.28 meters.
• In 2012 at the London Olympics, he secured the 8th position with a throw of 65.20 meters.
• In 2013, at the Asian Championships which were held in Pune, Vikas won his first-ever gold medal.
• He became the second Indian to win an athletics gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
• Claimed a silver medal in the 2014 Asian Games at Incheon in the discus throw event.
• Bagged a gold medal in discus throw event at the 2015 Asian Athletics Championships, held in Wuhan, China.
• He also qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games which was his fourth presence at the Olympic event.
• Won a bronze medal in discus throw event at the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships, held in Bhubaneswar.
• Honoured with the Padam Shri Award in 2017.
