Sathiyan Gnanasekaran

Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, who has been ranked 31th in the world as of March 2020, is an Indian Table Tennis Player. Sathiyan, who was not even in the top 100 until a few months ago, is the highest-ranked Indian player now. He became the highest-ranked player in India in the latest ranking of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). He had recently signed up with the top German club Grünwettersbach for the prestigious German Bundesliga top division league.

Some of his major career achievements -

• Member of the Indian team that bagged a bronze medal in the 2011 Junior World Championships
• Became the 2^nd Indian table tennis player to win an ITTF event
• Bagged the 2016 Belgium Open table tennis title in the men's singles category
• Earned bronze medals in some ITTF Challenges including 2017 Thailand Open, 2017 Belgium Open and an ITTF Major event - 2017 Swedish Open
• Won the gold medal in the men’s singles category at ITTF Challenge – 2017 Spanish Open
• Clinched silver medal in the doubles men category at ITTF Major- Bulgaria Open in 2017
• Part of the Indian contingent in 2018 Asian Games which made history by winning a silver medal
• Felicitated with the TOISA Table Tennis player of the year award in 2018
• Honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2018
• He clinched the Silver medal at the 2020 ITTF World Tour Hungarian Open (Men's Doubles) held in Budapest.
