Somwarpet Vittalacharya Sunil

Born on 6th May 1989 in Kodagu, Karnataka; Somwarpet Vittalacharya Sunil is an Indian professional field hockey player. Since his childhood, Sunil was much influenced by hockey and used to practice the game with bamboo sticks, not being able to afford a hockey stick. He made his international debut in 2007.

Achievements:

• Made his successful senior international debut by bagging a gold. medal along with his team at the ASHF Asia Cup of 2007, held in Chennai.
• Part of the team that bagged a silver medal at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in 2008.
• Scored four goals at the Champions Challenge of 2011, the most by any Indian forward player in the tournament.
• Part of the team that won a gold medal in 2011 and a silver medal at the 2012 Men’s Asian Champions Trophy.
• Bagged a gold medal at the Asian Games and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games of 2014.
• Earned a bronze medal at the FIH Hockey World League of 2015, held in Raipur.
• Won silver medals at the Hockey Champions Trophy of 2016 and 2018, held in London and Breda, respectively.
