Neeraj Chopra

Neeraj Chopra (Golden Boy of India) was born on 24th December 1997 in Khandra village, Haryana. He has become the first Indian to win Gold in athletics and the first post-independence Indian to win an individual Olympic gold in Athletics. Not only in sports, but he has also shown utmost dedication and pride in serving the Indian Army as a Junior Commissioned Officer. On 27 August 2021, Defence Minister Shri Rajanath Singh renamed the Army Sports Institute (ASI) stadium of Pune Cantonment to "Neeraj Chopra Stadium" in the honour of getting Gold for India in the Olympics.

His major achievements:-

• Spotted at 19th position at the World Youth Championships of 2013 by covering 66.75 m.
• Ranked 9th at the Asian Championship of 2015 by covering a 70.50 m.
• Won a gold medal at the IAAF World U20 Championships of 2016, setting a junior world record.
• In the 2016 South Asian Games, he won Gold by 82.23 m in the javelin throw.
• In the 2016 Asian Junior Championships, he sealed Silver at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
• Neeraj bagged a gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games With a power throw of 82.23 meters.
• At the 2017 Asian Grand Prix Series, Neeraj Chopra has bagged Two Silver & 1 Bronze.
• At the Asian Athletic Championships 2017, Neeraj bagged a gold medal by covering a distance of 85.23 meters. The same year, he earned the 15th position at the World Championships with a distance covered 82.26 m.  
• At the Commonwealth Games of 2018, Neeraj dished out a clinical performance by winning a gold medal with a season-best effort of 86.47 meters, becoming the first Indian to win a javelin throw event t CWG.
• He broke the National record in May 2018 at the Doha IAAF Diamond League with a throw of 87.43 meters.
• In 2018, Neeraj won Gold in Sotteville Athletics Meet in France with an 85.17m throw.
• Neeraj Chopra clinched a gold medal with an 85.69 m throw at the 2018 Finland Savo Games.
• On 27 August 2018, Neeraj threw 88.06 m to win Gold in the men's javelin throw at the 2018 Asian Games and set a new Indian national record, bettering his previous one.
• He got a Silver Medal in the 2018 Offenburg Speersurf Meeting.
• By winning Gold in the 2020 Athletics Central North West League Meeting, South Africa, he qualified for the Summer Olympics.
• He has bagged Two Golds, one in 2021 Meeting Cidade de Lisboa, Portugal & another in Folksam Grand Prix, Sweden.
• He was honoured with the Arjuna award in 2018, Vishist Seva Medal (VSM) in the 2020 Republic Day Honours & the Highest Sporting India - Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 2021.
