Mohammed Azharuddin

Mohammed Azharuddin, born on February 8, 1963, in Hyderabad, India, is a former cricket player and sports leader. Azharuddin was known for his graceful batting style and captained the Indian cricket team during a significant part of his career from 1985 to 2000. His cricket journey had both highs and lows, with a period of controversy and a subsequent ban in 2000 due to a match-fixing scandal. Despite the challenges, Azharuddin's ban was lifted in 2006. After retiring from cricket, he ventured into politics and became a Member of Parliament. Azharuddin's story is a blend of cricketing success and overcoming adversities.

• Hit three centuries in his first three matches for the Indian cricket team in 1984
• Captained the Indian cricket team in 47 Test matches and 174 One Day Internationals with a record victory in 90 ODIs. This record was surpassed by M.S. Dhoni in 2014.
• His 14 Test match wins as captain was also a record until it was surpassed by Sourav Ganguly, who has added 21 Test match wins to his name.
• Honoured with the Indian Sports honour Arjuna Award in 1986
• Bestowed with the Indian civilian award Padma Shri in 1988
• He was named as the Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1991
• Earned the title of Man of the Match in 18 ODI matches held in between 1985-2000
