Mark Spitz, born on February 10, 1950, in Modesto, California, is an iconic American swimmer. In the 1972 Munich Olympics, he achieved an unprecedented feat, winning seven gold medals—a record that endured for 36 years. Recognizable by his distinctive mustache, Spitz showcased remarkable versatility across freestyle, butterfly, and medley events. His powerful swimming style and triumphs established him as one of the greatest Olympians. Retiring at 22, Spitz transitioned to a successful business career.
