Marita Koch

Marita Koch is a former sprint track and field athlete, from Germany. The athlete holds 14 world records (indoor events) and 16 world records (outdoor events). She completed 400 m race in a record time of 47.60s. The same stands still. She made her first world record in 1977 where she ran 400m in 51.8s.

Here are some of her career achievements:

• Bagged a gold medal in 400 m and a silver medal in 4 x 400 m relay categories at the 1980 Summer Olympic Games, held in Moscow
• Bagged three gold medals in 200 m, 4 x 100m relay and 4 x 400m relay events and a silver medal in 100m at the 1983 World Championships in Athletics, held in Helsinki
• Bagged gold medals in 400m at the 1978, 1982 and 1986 European Championships in Athletics, held in Prague, Athens and Stuttgart, respectively
• Set her first world record In the year 1977, held in Milan, Italy, by running 400 m indoors in just 51.8 seconds
• Koch bagged a gold medal in Friendship Games, 1984.
