Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Born on 21 October 1982 in Perak, is a professional badminton player from Malaysia who is the only Malaysian badminton player who has held the World No.1 ranking for more than a year. Lee's father, Lee Ah Chai, used to play badminton and was the reason behind introducing Lee to the game. In February 2009, he got appointed as the UNICEF Malaysia's National Ambassador. Lee Chong Wei got married to Wong Mew Choo, his teammate, on 9 November 2012. A biopic named 'Lee Chong Wei: Rise of the Legend' & an autobiography' Dare to be a Champion' was made based on Lee's journey.
Achievements-
He won bronze in the 2000 Asian Junior Championships in Kyoto, Japan & another bronze at World Junior Championships in Guangzhou, China, in 2000.
Lee won the bronze in 2003, 2005, 2015 & bagged gold in the 2005 Southeast Asian Games.
Lee Chong Wei won the Malaysia Open Champion Title twelve times from 2004-2006, 2008-2014, 2016, 2018.
He was a gold medalist in the Commonwealth games in 2006, 2010 & 2018, respectively.
Lee has won gold two times at Badminton Asia Championships in 2006 & 2016.
He won his Wilson Swiss Champion two times in 2006 & 2009.
Lee won the Djarum Indonesia Open Champion five times in 2007, 2009- 2011& 2013.
Chong has been three times the YONEX French Open Champion in 2007, 2011, 2015 & he has also been six times the YONEX Open Japan Champion in 2007, 2010, 2012-2014 & 2016.
Lee has also won the 2008 Singapore Open Champion.
He has also bagged a silver medal in 2008 at the Beijing Olympic Games.
Lee Chong Wei has won the YONEX- SUNRISE BWF Super Series Masters Finals Champion in 2009.
He has won back to back in Macau Open Champion in 2009& 2010.
Lee Chong Wei also won the YONEX-SUNRISE Hong Kong Open Champion five times in 2009,2010,2013,2015 & 2017.
Lee was a three-time Korea Open Champion in 2010, 2012 & 2013.
He won the YONEX All England Open Champion four times in 2010, 2011, 2014 & 2017.
He was also the three-time YONEX-SUNRISE India Open Champion in 2011, 2013 & 2014.
Lee Chong Wei was the silver medalist in the BWF World Championships in 2011, 2013 & 2015.
Lee was a silver medalist in the LondonOlympicGames in 2012 & the same year, he also won the YONEX Denmark Open Champion.
Secured the second position at the Thomas Cup (World Men's Team Championships) in 2014.
In 2015, Lee Chong Wei won the Thaihot China Open Champion and the YONEX Canada Open Champion.
In 2016, Lee won three titles; one in the BCA Indonesia Open Champion, then the Victor Far East Malaysia Masters Champion & also bagged silver in the Rio Olympic Games.

He was awarded the RTM's Most Popular Icon on Television Award in 2013.
Honours:
In 2006, Lee has conferred Member of the Order of the Defender of the Realm.
Lee Chong Wei was bestowed with the ‘Dato’ title by the Governor of Penang, Abdul Rahman Abbas.
After Lee’s achievement at the 2016 Summer Olympics, he got promoted to the rank of Commander (Honorary).
In 2016, Chong was bestowed with the title of "Datuk Wira" from Malacca Governor Mohd Khalil Yaakob.
He was made the Commander of the Order of the Meritorious service, which carries the title‘Datuk’by Sultan Muhammad V of Malaysia in 2017.
In Dec 2021, Lee Chong Wei received an honorary doctorate in sports science from Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, the chancellor of the Science University of Malaysia.
