Hicham El Guerrouj

Born on 14th September 1974, Hicham El Guerrouj is a retired professional middle-distance runner from Morocco. He is a world record holder and one of the greatest middle distance runners in the history of track and field.

Here are some of his greatest achievements listed below:-

• Hicham's name was inducted into the IAAF Hall of Fame in 2014.
• He holds world records in 1500m, 2000m, and mile event.
• The first man to be named as the "IAAF World Athlete of the Year" for three times in 2001, 2002, and 2003. In 2003, he was chosen as the member of the IAAF Athlete Committee.
• Recipient of Prince of Asturias Award in 2004.
• Gold Medalist in 1500m and 5000m events at the Athens Olympic Games of 2004.
• Hicham won the World Championship in men's 1500m event four times in the years:1997,1999, 2001and 2003 and secured silver medals at the World Championships of 1995 and 2003 in men's 1500m and 5000m events respectively.
