Genzebe Dibaba Keneni

Genzebe Dibaba, the talented middle-distance runner from Ethiopia, was born on February 8, 1991, in Bekoji. Known for her incredible speed, she made history in 2015 by setting the world record for the women's 1500 meters. Coming from a family of runners, including her renowned sister Tirunesh Dibaba, Genzebe's athletic abilities are truly exceptional. She has clinched multiple world championship titles, showcasing her dedication and skill on the track. Beyond running, Genzebe is involved in humanitarian work, supporting education initiatives in Ethiopia. Her impact on athletics and her commitment to making a positive difference have solidified her as a respected figure in the sports community.

Here are some of her career achievements:-

• Two gold medals in Junior race at the World Cross-Country Championships of 2008 and 2009, held in Edinburgh and Amman respectively.
• Three gold medals one in 1500m and two in 3000m at the World Indoor Championships of 2012, 2014 and 2016, held in Istanbul, Sopot, and Portland respectively.
• Bagged a gold medal in 1500m event at the  2014 IAAF Continental Cup, held in Marrakech.
• Bagged gold in 1500m and a silver medal in 3000m at the World Championships of 2015, held in Beijing.
• Silver Medal in 1500m event at the Olympic Games of 2016, held in Rio de Janerio.
• Broke the 2000 m indoor world record and also the absolute world record by running the distance in 5:23.75 in 2017
• Became the World Champion in the 1500 m and in the 3000 m event at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham.
• Won the Golden Gala 1500 m in 2019 with a time 3:56.28 minutes.
