Gautam Gambhir

Born on 14th October 1981, Gautam Gambhir is a well-known Indian former cricketer, who predominately participated in international events to contribute his best to achieve victory for the nation. He had captained the team Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

His achievements:-

• He received the prestigious "Arjuna Award" in the year 2009 for his astounding performances in 2008.
• In 2009, he was ranked No.1 batsman in ICC Test rankings as well as won the title of the "ICC Test Player of the Year".
• Under Gambhir's captaincy, the Kolkata Knight Riders won their IPL title in 2012 and in 2014.
• Gambhir was a key member of the Indian team that played 2007 ICC World Twenty20, held in South Africa and won the event defeating Pakistan in the finals.
• In 2010, Gambhir was appointed the captain of the national team in ODI series against New Zealand which was hosted by India. He scored 150 in the 4th match in Kolkata to help India win the series.
• Bagged 12 times Man of the Match award in ODIs.
• 1st Indian & 4th overall cricketer to hit 5 centuries in 5 consecutive Test matches.
• 1st Indian player to score 300+ runs in 4 consecutive Test series.
• 2nd cricketer (after Sir Viv Richards) to hit 11 fifties in 11 consecutive Test matches.
• Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn made a record of 184 runs in an opening partnership while batting for Kolkata Knight Riders against Gujarat Lions in IPL 2017 season.
• On 16 March 2019, he was honoured with the Padma Shri award.
