Balbir Singh Sr.

Balbir Singh was born on 10th October 1924. He is an Indian former field hockey player. He is often called Balbir Singh Sr. to differentiate him from other hockey players who go by the same name.

His Achievements:-

• Bagged a gold medal at the 1948 Summer Olympic Games, held in London.
• Played a significant role in winning a gold medal at the 1952 Olympic Games, held in Helsinki.
• Clinched a gold medal at the 1956 Olympic Games, held in Melbourne.
• Received the honor of Padma Shri in the year 1957.
• Won silver medals at the 1958 and 1962 Asian Games which were held in Tokyo and Jakarta, respectively.
• Adjudicated the Indian Sportsperson of the Century in 1982 by the Patriot newspaper.
• Adjudged the Best Sikh Hockey Player in the year 2006.
• Bestowed with the Major Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award of Hockey India in 2015.
