Aleksandr Vladimirovich Popov

Born on 16th November 1971, Aleksandr Vladimirovich Popov is a former professional swimmer from Russia. He is one of the two freestyle swimmers of the world who have won four individual Olympic medals in freestyle events.

Some of his Career Achievements:-

• Won 2 gold medals in 50m and 100m freestyle events and 2 silver medals in 4 x 100m relay and medley at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Spain.
• Won 2 gold medals in 50m and 100m and 2 silver medals in 4 x 100m relay and medley at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
• Won a silver medal in the 100m event at the 2000 Summer Olympics that took place in Sydney
• Bagged gold medals in 50m and 100m freestyle at the 1994 World Aquatics Championships in Rome
• In 1998, he added another feather in his cap by winning a gold medal in the 100m freestyle event at the World Aquatics Championships convened in Perth.
• The World Aquatics Championships of 2003 that took place in Barcelona again witnessed his impactful winning performance in 50m, 100m and 4 x 100m events.
• For his astounding performances in freestyle swimming, Alexander has been honoured with the "Order of Friendship"," Order of Merit for the Fatherland" (in 3rd class) and "Master of Sports".
