Old Trafford, popularly known as the 'Theatre of Dreams' is a football stadium in the city of Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. It has been the stamping ground for one of the leading football club 'Manchester United' since 1910. The first match at the stadium was played between Manchester United and Liverpool (3-4) on 19th of February 1910. At that time, the stadium consisted of only one covered seating stand & open terraces on the other three sides. In 1939, Old Trafford recorded its highest attendance during an FA Cup semi-final match between Wolves and Grimsby Town. As a result of damage caused to the stadium during the Second World War, Manchester United had to switch to the ground of the rivals "Manchester City" i.e. at Maine Road from 1941 to 1949. The stadium reached its current capacity in 2006.

It is the largest home-ground for football clubs in the United Kingdom (UK), the second largest football stadium in the UK & the eleventh largest stadium in Europe till today.
Manchester United's home ground, Old Trafford was nicknamed as "Theatre of Dreams" by England's greatest footballer Sir Bobby Charlton.

Significance

During the Euro 1996 tournament, Old Trafford hosted five matches which included three group matches, a quarter-final, and the semi-final clash between the Czech Republic & France (0-0).
Old Trafford hosted the European final in the year 2003 when the Champions League final match was played between Milan and Juventus (0-0).
The stadium has also witnessed the football matches of 2012 Summer Olympics, including women's international football for the first time in its history.
During the World Cup of 1966, Old Trafford hosted three group matches including a semi-final match. The capacity of the stadium was about 60,000 at that time.
