Sergey Bubka

Serhiy Nazarovych Bubka was born on 4th December 1963. He is a former pole vaulter, who has represented the Soviet Union and later on, Ukraine after the former was eradicated.

His Achievements:-

• Secured a gold medal at the 1985 European Athletics Indoor Championships, held in Athens.
• Won a gold medal at the 1986 European Championships in Athletics, held at Stuttgart.
• Winner of a gold medal at the 1986 Goodwill Games, held in Moscow
• Won gold medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics, held in Seoul.
• Honored with the "Prince of Asturias Award" in Sports in the year 1991
• Won gold medals in Athletics (representing the Soviet Union) at 1983, 1987 and 1991 World Championships, held in Helsinki, Rome, and Tokyo, respectively.
• Also, won gold medals at the 1993, 1995 and 1997 World Championships in Athletics, representing Ukraine, held in Stuttgart, Gothenburg and Athens, respectively.
• In 1997, he was voted as the Sportsman of the Year by the newspaper, "L'Équipe".
