Ricky Thomas Ponting, born on 19th December 1974, is a former cricketer from Australia who has captained the national cricket team of the country in Test cricket during its “golden era”, which was from 2004 to 2011 and between 2002 and 2011 in One Day International.
His Achievements:-
- He holds the record for most number of World Cup matches played with 46 matches.
- He was the captain of 2003 and 2007 World Cup winning team and also a member of the 1999 winning team captained by Steve Waugh.
- Under his captaincy, the Australian team has won 48 Test matches out of 77, 164 ODIs out of 229 and 7 Twenty20 from a total of 17 matches.
- He is also the most capped captain of Australian Cricket Team in the history of ODI.
- He owns the record for scoring most runs in the ODI history as a captain with 8497 runs.
