Philip Grant Anderson

Phil Anderson, born on March 12, 1958, is an Australian former professional cyclist known for his trailblazing career. Hailing from London, England, Anderson moved to Australia at a young age. He made history in 1981 as the first Australian to wear the coveted yellow jersey in the Tour de France. Renowned for his endurance and strategic racing, Anderson enjoyed success in various international competitions during the 1980s. His contributions to Australian cycling and breakthroughs in European races have solidified his place as a cycling icon. • Won the Tour de Suisse of 1985. The same year, he won the Tour Méditerranéen, Volta a Catalunya, Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré races
• In the year 1978, he bagged a gold medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games, held in Edmonton
• In the year 1994, he repeated the victory at the Commonwealth Games of 1978 by clinching a gold medal but this time in team time trial.
• Honoured with the Order of Australia in 1987
• Received the Australia Sports Medal in 2000 and Centenary Medal in 2001
• Inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2010
