Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha

Born on 27^th June 1964, Pilavullakandi Thekkeparambil Usha is a renowned track and field athlete from India. She has been allied with Indian athletics since 1979 and is predominantly known as the “Queen of Indian Track and Field”. At present, she is coaching the burgeoning athletes of India at her Training academy in Kerala.

A glimpse of her achievements:-

• At Kollam in 1978, P.T. Usha came into limelight as a junior athlete by giving an eye-catching performance in National Inter state-meet.
• She has proved her love for passion by giving an active participation in Asian Games and winning 4 gold and 6 silver medals in between 1986-1994.
• She made a record of 55.42 seconds in Los Angeles when the 400m hurdles were added to the women's athletics for the very first time.
• At the Jakarta Asian Athletic meet in 1985, Usha won 5 gold medals and 1 bronze.
• Usha is honored with the "Best Athlete in Asia" Award five times in the years 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1989.
• She also owns the record for winning the maximum gold medal by an Indian female athlete in single track meets.
