Naomi Osaka

Born on 16th October 1997 in Chūō-ku, Osaka; Naomi Osaka is the first and only Japanese tennis star who has top-notched the world ranking and contributing the sport with phenomenal performances.

A glimpse of her major achievements:-

• Came to international prominence after defeating former U. S. Open champion Samantha Stosur at the 2014 Standard Classic which was a part of the WTA Tour of the year.
• Named as the WTA Newcomer of the Year in 2016 after her phenomenal winning performance against Elina Svitolina at the Pan Pacific Open and finishing the WTA final as the runner up.
• Bagged her first WTA title at the Indian Wells Open in 2018. The same year, she bagged the U. S. Open title defeating Serena Williams. With this feat, she became the first Japanese to win a Grand Slam singles event.
• Bagged her second Grand Slam title in 2019 by dominating the Australian Open and became the first Asian to be ranked as the WTA World No.1.
