Michael Duane Johnson

Born on 13th September 1967, Michael Johnson is a former professional American sprinter and word record holder in 400m and 200m events.Through his stiff upright position and high knee lift technique, he has won many of the national as well as international races.

A brief account of his major encompassments is given here:-

• Michael Johnson is the only athlete who has won 200 m and 400 m races in the same Olympic Event which were held in 1996.
• Tied with Carl Lewis, he is the second to Usain Bolt in winning most career gold medals (12) in track and field events at the Olympics as well as World Championships.
• In 1996, he received the James E .Sullivan Award.The same year, he earned two Olympic gold medals each in 200m and 400m events.
• In the year 2000, Johnson again bagged an Olympic gold medal in 400m event.
• He was twice honored as the "IAAF Athlete of the Year" in 1996 and 1999.
• Johnson also received the honorary Jesse Owens Award three times (1994,1995, and 1996).
