Matteo Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini, born on April 12, 1996, is a professional tennis player from Italy. He began playing tennis at the tender age of 4. His younger brother, Jacopo, also plays tennis. Matteo has also competed in sports like football, swimming and judo during his childhood. He is known for his strong serve and forehand is an aggressive all-court player. His favourite shot is forehand, surface is hard, and he plays right-handed (two-handed backhand). Matteo made his ATP debut (main draw) at the Italian Open 2017, earning a wildcard in the pre-qualifying tournament.

Here are some of his major career achievements:

• At the Swiss Open 250 Series 2018, he won his first ATP singles title defeating Roberto Bautista Agut 1-0 as well as the doubles title, partnering with Daniele Bracciali.
• Won the doubles title of St. Petersburg Open in September 2018 on hard court, partnering with the Italian player Fabio Fognini.
• Clinched the singles title at the Hungarian Open 2019 and Stuttgart Open 2019, defeating Filip Krajinović and Félix Auger-Aliassime, respectively.
• At the 2019 US Open, he became the first Italian player to reach the semi-finals of the tournament since 1977, after defeating Gaël Monfils in the quarterfinals.
• Matteo achieved the career-high World No. 8 ATP singles ranking in November 2019 to become the highest-ranked Italian tennis player since 1978.
• Won the Ultimate Tennis Showdown held in 2020, defeating the Greek tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas.
