Maarten van der Weijden

Maarten van der Weijden is a long distance and marathon swimmer from Alkmaar, Netherlands. He won a silver medal at the 2006 European Aquatics Championships. The swimmer stood second at the 2007 World Championships. He holds a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games.

Here are some of his career achievements:

• Represented his country and bagged a silver medal in the 10 km open water category, at the 2006 European Championships, held in Budapest
• Secured the 7th position at the 2007 World Championships, held in Melbourne, Australia
• Bagged a gold medal and a bronze medal in 25 km open water and 5 km open water categories, respectively at the 2008 World Championships, held in Seville
• Won a gold medal in the 10 km open water category, at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, held in Beijing
• Won the Dutch Sportsman of the Year award in the year 2008
