- He holds the record of taking the highest number of wickets (299) in all T20 matches.
- Malinga also holds the record of taking the highest number of wickets (143) in IPL (Indian Premier League).
- He captained the Sri-Lanka cricket team that won the T20 World Cup of 2014.
