Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei

Joshua Cheptegei is a long-distance runner of Uganda, who is the 2019 world champion in the 10,000 m. In the short span of his career, Cheptegei has surpassed several world records and has accomplished various achievements in his career while performing for Uganda. Cheptegei is the 10th man in history to hold the world records in 5,000 m and 10,000 m concurrently, both set in 2020.

Here are some of his career achievements

• Bagged a gold medal in the 10,000m event at the 2014 World Junior Championships, held in Eugene.
• Secured a gold and a silver medal in the 10,000m event at 2019 & 2017 World Championships.
• Clinched two gold medals in the 5,000m and 10,000m event at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, held in Gold Coast.
• Earned two gold medals in the senior race and senior team events at the 2019 World Cross Country Championships, held in Aarhus
• Set a new 5,000m world road record of 12:51 at a road race in Monaco in 2020
• Set a new 5,000m world record of 12:35.36 at the 2020 Monaco Diamond League
• Registered a new world record time of 26:11.00 in the 10,000m in Valencia on 7 October 2020
