Jonathan Neil Rhodes

Jonty Rhodes is a former South African cricketer and commentator. Although he stood out for his fast running speed as a right-handed batsman, he was noted especially for his defensive fielding; particularly the catching, ground fielding and throwing from his most common backward point position. Jonty is considered one of the best fielders of all times.

Major Achievements:

• During the 1993–1994 season, he scored his first Test century (101*) during the first Test of a three-match series against Sri Lanka, which aided South Africa to win the series by 1–0.
• Set a world record of taking five catches to achieve most dismissals by a fielder against the West Indies on 14 November 1993 at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
• Rose to fame after South Africa's fifth match in World Cup against Pakistan on March 8, 1992, at Brisbane Cricket Ground. With the score of 135/2, Inzamam ul Haq, who was at that time at 48, placed the ball for a run but turned back by Imran Khan. The ball had rolled towards Jonty and he ran from the backward point, picked up the ball and ran towards the wicket to run out Inzamam. Jonty, with the ball in his hand, dove in all its length to break the stumps and make him run out, which is still considered one of the most spectacular feats of that World Cup and the decisive moment of Rhodes' career.
• Also represented his country in hockey and was selected to go to Barcelona as a part of the squad for the 1992 Olympic Games. However, the team did not qualify to go to the tournament.
