Caterine Ibargüen Mena

Born on 12th February 1984 in Antioquia, Caterine Ibargüen is a much-publicised athlete of Colombia who predominantly participates in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. She has marked her name in the history of athletics by winning various international competitions and setting numerous records.

Here are some of her career achievements:

• Earned a total of five gold and two silver medals at the Bolivarian Games, held in 2001, 2005 and 2009
• Roped in silver and a bronze medal at the CAC Junior Championships of 2002 in the high jump and triple jump, respectively 
• Bagged a gold medal in the triple jump at the Summer Olympics of 2016 and a silver medal at the Summer Olympics of 2012
• Secured a bronze and two gold medals at the World Championships held in between 2011 - 2016
• Caterine won a bronze and a gold medal at the Pan American Games of 2011 in the triple jump and long jump, respectively. She again bagged a gold medal in the triple jump in 2015
• She clinched a silver medal for the distance of 14.89m in the triple jump category at 2017 World Championships.
• Honoured with the IAAF Female Athlete of the Year award in 2018.
• In 2018, she secured a gold medal in both long and triple jump with distances of 6.83m and 14.92m at the Central American and Caribbean Games.
• Secured 5th place in the long jump at the 2019 Pan American Games with a distance of 6.54m.
• In 2019, she won a bronze medal in the triple jump category by covering the 14.73m distance in the World Championships.
