Bonnie Blair

Born on 18th March 1964, in Cornwall, New York, Bonnie Kathleen Blair is a retired American speedskater who has her name in the history of Olympics as one of the most decorated speed skaters. She debuted as a speed skater in 1984, participating in the Olympics in 500m race where she finished at eighth position. Post her retirement from speed skating, Blair became a motivational speaker. At present, she serves as the member of the board at Pettit National Ice Center.   

Here are some of her career achievements:

• Bagged gold medals at the Winter Olympics of 1988, 1992 and 1994, held in Calgary, Albertville, and Lillehammer, respectively
• Clinched gold medals at the 1989, 1994 and 1995 World Championships
• In 1994, the Associated Press honoured her as the female athlete of the year for her exemplary performance in speed skating
• Won the prestigious James E. Sullivan Award in 1992
• Also, earned the Oscar Mathisen Award in 1992 (the first female winner of this award)
• Earned a bronze medal at the 1988 Winter Olympics in 1,000 metres event, held in Calgary
