Ankur Dhama

Ankur Dhama was born on July 7^th, 1994 in Khekra (a small village in Uttar Pradesh). At the age of 4, he started suffering a serial loss in his eye vision. After turning 5, Ankur has gone in complete darkness in his eye vision. He moved to Delhi and attended the JPM Senior Secondary School for the Blind which was suggested by his doctor. After that, he passed out from the school with meritorious grades and enrolled in the renowned St. Stephen’s College, at the same time pursuing his passion for the sport. Ankur trains under his coach Dr. Satyapal Singh, who picks and drops him after practice.  For the rest of the things, he is completely independent. In 2016, he represented the country for the very first time in Paralympic Games where he competed against the world’s best athletes in Rio.

Major Achievements -

• Ankur won a gold medal in 800m & 1500m at the Malaysian Open Championship in 2012.
• In 2014, he was bestowed with a gold medal in 1500m and bronze medal in 800m at the Sharjah Open Championship in UAE.
• In 2014 Fazza International Athletics Competition, he won a silver medal in 800m and bronze medal in 1500m in Dubai.
• Clinched a silver medal in 800m and 2 bronze medals in 1500m and 5000m at the 2014 Para Asian Games in Korea.
• He represented his country at the Paralympic Games where he competed against the world’s best athletes in Rio 2016.
• Ankur was bestowed with a gold medal in men’s 800m event at the 2018 National Para Athletics Championships.
