Al Oerter

Alfred Oerter Jr. was born on 19th September 1936, in New York, USA. He was a discus thrower and the first athlete to win the gold medal in the same event in four consecutive Olympic Games.

Accomplishments:-

• Won a gold medal at the 1959 Pan American Games in discus throw, held in Chicago.
• Won gold medals in the discus throw event at the Summer Olympic Games of 1956, 1960, 1964 and 1968, held in Melbourne, Rome, Tokyo and Mexico City respectively.
• Also won the silver medal at the 1980 Olympic Boycott Games in Philadelphia.
• Inducted into the Nassau County Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.
