Born on 11 August 1954, Yashpal Sharma is a former Indian cricketer who was an explosive middle-order batsman played during the 1970s and 80s. He was one of the heroes of the 1983 Cricket World Cup winning team. He scored 89 runs in the opening match of the 1983 World Cup which caused West Indies their first-ever defeat in a World Cup match. He made his ODI debut against Pakistan on 13th October 1978 and his Test debut came against England on 2nd August 1979.
