Virender Singh (Goonga Pehelwan)

Virender Singh Yadav is an Indian freestyle wrestler. He is regarded as one of the most accomplished deaf and mute wrestlers of Haryana. Virender took inspiration to pursue wrestling from his father and uncle who were also good wrestlers. He has won three gold medals and four bronze medals in Deaflympics.      

Here are some of his career achievements:

• Bagged a gold medal at the Deaflympics of 2005, held in Melbourne
• Won a bronze medal at the Deaflympics of 2009, held in Taiwan
• Won gold medals in 74 kg category at the Deaflympics of 2013 and 2017 that were held in Bulgaria and Turkey, respectively  
• Bagged a silver and a bronze medal with his power-pack performance at the World Deaf Wrestling Championships of 2008 and 2012, respectively
• Received the prestigious Arjuna Award by the Government of India in 2015
