Sunil Chhetri

Sunil Chhetri, born on 3^rd August 1984, is one of the most prolific football player of India, captain of both the Indian National Team and ISL side Bengaluru FC. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers that India has ever produced. He is India's all-time highest goalscorer with 72 goals from 115 appearances and ranks himself second, behind Portugal's superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in scoring most international goals among active male players.

A brief account of his major encompassments are given here:-​

• 2008- He along with his team won the AFC Challenge Cup and was selected as the “Most Valuable Player” of the event.
• 2012- Chhetri led his team to win the Nehru Cup scoring maximum at the event. The same year, he dominated the Hero I-League being a part of Churchill Brothers Sports Club.
• 2014- He played a crucial role as a member of Bengaluru F.C. in winning the Indian Federation Cup beating Dempo by a score of 2-1.
• Chhetri served his vital contribution to his team in winning the South Asian Football Federation Cup two times in 2011 and 2016. He was named as the top scorer and the “Player of the Tournament” for the year 2011.
• 2017- Chhetri scored 14 goals for his club Bengaluru FC in the fourth season of Indian Super League and became the top goal scorer of the club on the league.
• Chhetri was also selected for the Player of the Tournament in I-League's 2016-2017 season and the Indian Super League's 2017-2018 season.
• 2018- In the first match of the Intercontinental Cup of the year, Sunil helped his team in a 5-0 win over Chinese Taipei by scoring a hat-trick. He was also honoured as the 'Hero of the Intercontinental Cup' as well as the 'Hero of the Indian Super League'. 
• He was honoured with the Asian Icon Award by Asian Football Council (AFC) in 2018.
• Entitled as the FPAI Indian Player of the Year twice in 2009 and 2018.
• In 2019, he was bestowed with the Football Ratna Award by Delhi Football Association.
• Chhetri has been selected as the "AIFF Player of the Year" six times in the years 2007, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2018-19 for his influencing performance in the sport.
