Born on 15th April 2002 in Madina village of Haryana, Sonam Malik is an Indian freestyle wrestler. Born in a family of wrestlers, she began practising the sport at the age of 11. Sonam’s father and cousins are into the sport that influenced her in making a career in wrestling.
She trained under the tutelage of coach Ajmer Malik at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Sports Complex. Initially, she faced some hardships in training as the academy did not have training mats, so she had to train on the ground that would turn muddy during rainy days, prompting them to practice on roads.
In 2017, her shoulder got injured during a state-level competition and remained out of the ring for about one and a half years. Along with her wrestling career, she is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree from Jat College. Sonam is sponsored by the OGQ (Olympic Gold Quest), a not for profit foundation, to help her win Olympic medals.
