Richard Lee Petty

Born on 2^nd July 1937, Richard Lee Petty is a successful and well-known former NASCAR driver. He is nicknamed “The King” by his followers.

A quick glance at some of his achievements:-

• He achieved his first career win, finishing second in the NASCAR Grand National Points Race in 1960 at Charlotte Fairgrounds Speedway.
• In 1964, Petty won his first Grand National Championship.
• Richard won his second Daytona 500 race when the thunderstorm interrupted the race at the 198th lap on 27th February 1966.
• During the year 1967, Richard won 27 races of the 48 races he participated with 10 consecutive wins.
• Petty's name was inducted in the NASCAR's 50 greatest drivers list in 1988.
• He is the first motorsports person who was honored with the "Medal of Freedom" which he received in 1992 by the then President of United States George Bush.
