Martin James Guptill

Born on 30th September 1986, Martin Guptill is a New Zealand cricketer who plays as an opener in ODIs and T20I formats for New Zealand. Guptill made his ODI debut for New Zealand in 2009 against the West Indies and became the first New Zealand batsman to score a century on his ODI debut.

Guptill’s Test debut also came in the year of 2009 against India. Martin is the first New Zealand batsman and the fifth overall to score a double ton in an ODI match, and also he currently holds the record for the highest individual score in ICC Cricket World Cup match which he scored against West Indies in 2015 by scoring 237* runs. This is also the second-highest score in ODIs.

Some of his major career achievements:

• In 2006, Guptill first represented New Zealand team in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
• Honoured with the Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for his brilliant performances in the 2011-12 season.
• In 2013, he smashed back to back ODI tons against England, where he scored 330 runs in the 3-match series. It’s a world record for most runs in a 3-match bilateral ODI series.
• In 2015 World Cup, his double ton of 237* runs remains the highest individual score in the World Cup. He scored three ducks in group matches but still ended the tournament with 547 runs, emerging as the tournament's highest scorer.
• Guptill was the first cricketer to face a pink ball in a day-night Test match in 2015. Also, he was the first player to be dismissed in a day-night Test.
• Martin has scored over 180 runs for three times in ODIs, the most by any New Zealand batsman.
• In 2018, he became the second New Zealand cricketer and ninth overall to score a ton against each of the other nine full-member Test-playing countries.
• Scored the third-most runs in T20I format as of September 2020.
