Chetan Sharma

Chetan Sharma is a former medium-pace bowler of the Indian cricket team during the 1980s. He was born on 3rd January 1966 in Ludhiana, Punjab. Chetan started playing cricket at the age of 16. He trained himself under the supervision of Desh Prem Azad who was the mentor of Kapil Dev and therefore regarded as his natural successor in the all-rounder category.

• Made his first appearance in the Test match of 1984 against Pakistan and became the third Indian to knock down a wicket in his first over in Test series
• Gave a noteworthy performance in defeating England by 2-0 at the Test Series in the year 1986 by taking 16 wickets in two Tests
• In the World Cup of 1987, he clean bowled three New Zealand players Ken Rutherford, Ewen Chatfield and Ian Smith and took the first hat-trick in the history of the tournament
• Sharma earned 101* runs in 96 balls and made India win against England at the Nehru Cup cricket tournament of 1989
• He is now a commentator and has opened a Cricket Academy in Haryana to guide future cricket stars
