Viswanathan "Vishy" Anand is India's first chess Grandmaster (the title he earned in 1988) and the former world champion of the year 2007. He is the fourth chess player in the rating list of FIDE who passed the 2800 Elo mark and the six times winner of Chess Oscar. Anand has earned numerous accolades in his professional chess career amongst which some are listed here-
2016- Anand received the “Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award" for his outstanding consummations in chess by C.Vidyasagar Rao, the Governor of Maharashtra.
2014- Anand shared the award of Russian "Order of Friendship" with Boris Gelfand for their astounding performance in the FIDE World Chess Championship match of the year 2012.
2012- Honored as the "Indian Sportsman of the Year" and "Indian of the Year"
2011- He was presented the "Global Strategist Award" by NASSCOM for his dominant performance in various formats of World Chess Championship.
1998- The British Chess Federation selected his book "My Best Games of Chess" as the "Book of the Year".
1991- The Government of India honored Anand by giving him the "Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award" for his sincere efforts in the sport.
1987- He was honored with the "Soviet Land Nehru Award" and "National Citizens Award" and the "Arjuna Award" for his consummate efforts in chess.
