The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka, is one of the major cricket venues in India. It is located at the center of the city and has witnessed almost all formats of cricket i.e., Test Match, One Day International, T-20 and all other forms of First-class cricket. It is the stamping ground of the Karnataka state cricket team and the Indian Premier League franchise "Royal Challengers Bangalore". Formerly known as Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) stadium, it has been renamed in the memory of Mr. M. Chinnaswamy who made significant contributions to Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for decades and was also the President of BCCI from 1977-1980. Although owned by the Government of Karnataka, it is leased by KSCA for 99 years. The stadium is also used for several cultural and musical events.

Trivia

It is the only stadium in India that is using solar panels to generate its required energy as the result of "Go Green" initiative of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

Significance

The first first-class cricket was played during the season of 1972-73.
In the third Test match between India and Pakistan in 2007, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh made a 300 run partnership which is the highest left-handed batsmen partnership and Sourav’s 239 runs were the highest score made by a left-handed batsman in this ground.
The first one day match was played here in 1982 between India and Sri Lanka.
India won its first Test Match here against the team of England which was led by Tony Greg in season 1976-77 .
The quarterfinal match of 1996 Wills World Cup was the first match played under flood light where India registered a thrashing victory over Pakistan by 39 runs.
The first ODI was held here on 6th September 1982 where India knocked down Sri Lanka by six wickets.
The first Test match played here in 1974 was the debut match of the all-time legend batsmen, Viv Richards, and Gordon Greenidge.
